Coronelli was a Venetian who rose to become head of the Franciscan order, and probably the best-known Italian cartographer. This map, which derives from Ludolf, usefully compares the current and more accurate geography of Ethiopia and the Nile with previous attempts by Ortelius, Mercator and others.
